I think the battle lines have shifted. Back when XvsXP started, the desktop was the primary battlefront for the platform wars. Now, it's iPhone vs. Android where people are taking sides. Perhaps a venture into smartphone comparisons?

Quite honestly it's because we don't have any trolls. Back when we did, there'd be some inane argument going on at all hours of the day and everyone would be jumping in to add comments. Now it's much more relaxed.

Quick! Somebody go get Rick Tempest! tongue.gif blink.gif ph34r.gif

Well I have been thinking about this and I have come to the conclusions...

1. Discussion decreases if you allow any visitor to change the comparisons to match what they see is missing
2. People are more likely to post if they see something missing that they don't have any way of fixing themselves. They don't want to post in the forums only to be told to fix it themselves because most people would rAther point out what's wrong then have to fix it themselves.

3. Without some score or conclusion to the comparisons, it leaves the final decision to the reader and doesn't introduce any room for discussion for those who feel differently.

By trying to be very unbiased and ambivuous we have effectively killed off debate.

The solution might be to just limit the ability for those to sign up as contributors and just build a team of people to do this. Also, we reintroduce a score or a "who won this round" to force debate.

We had some very contentious posters in the past. Perhaps we might encourage similar new members by posting some controversial topics. I understand that the nature of the forum may change but at least it will be a live forum.

Controversy and biased view points always result in some "interesting" conversations.

This forum is dead because microsoft is no longer a competitor.

It's google now. You should rename this Mac vs Google. I'd come back for that, but as for Mac vs windows - well, that's yesterdays news....

I'm glad you pointed this out. It's true that Apple and Google have ascended and Micosoft has declined. But MS is still the the second biggest tech company and only slightly behind Apple. I'm hoping that MS seizes the opportunity to come up with some groundbreaking technology.
