I don't think this is about windows 7. Windows is trying to emulate the "nice feeling" from the GUI of OSX. But in terms of GUI, Windows 7 is not far from Vista, and as this article implies, MS people just sat down with Win7 to think about these things. If so, how is Vista so similar to Windows7?

Clearly, the MS employee is not very articulate, or doesn't care for being precise.

If it's a PR cleanup, wouldn't it make sense to make it visible and not hide it on some blog most people don't even know about?

Blog information spreads like wildfire, where everyone will see it.

For instance, I read the same info here:

And now it's on C|Net. Yes, it is PR damage control:

Yeah, I agree, I never really got the arguments that Vista/7 looks like Mac OS X, or is "ripping it off." I don't think it looks similar at all. They're similar in that they both use a compositing engine to do transparencies, shadows, etc...and 7's taskbar does function very similarly to OS X's dock.

But the actual appearance of the UIs isn't similar at all. I mean, would even a casual computer user get the two confused? I doubt it.

I do wonder though why the guy would even say anything in the first place. He didn't say it was his opinion, he said "we designed it like X" as if he worked on it personally. Kind of strange.
