It's time for a user created windows 7 theme for this site

It's pretty simple now. At some later point I want to expand it with some other wallpapers and maybe a cursor set. Tell me what you think

FYI, themepack files are really just zip files. If you unzip it, double clicking of the theme file inside will apply the theme on vista (sans the wallpaper, you need to apply that manualy). So if say any mac users wanted the wallapper, just unzip the theme and look for the pictures

A little off topic:

Many people (myself included) think the term "themes" is a little lamely used in Win 7; while these combinations of color transparencies, sounds and wallpapers are something nice, calling these "themes" is stretching the word a little.

The problem MS had is that they didn't want to add something that by default would let people change the shape of widgets and hide the Aero theme because they had invested on it and they want people to use it (that's what I think at least). It's sad that nobody had this idea inside MS, but the real solution for themes in Vista/Win7 was to do something similar to what Google is doing with Chrome: add the possibility to put a texture inside the transparency of windows (in addition to current theme options). This looks very elegant, it is easy to add, and you don't have to wonder too much for unexpected GUI problems, since you're not changing the shape of any element. I don't care if people says that MS is copying Google, I think they need to add this feature to Windows (in the next version I guess) if they want to keep using the Aero theme.

It's what they have been called since windows 95. The word Theme was used in a different way later to describing skinning

That's not how Windows XP themes (the included ones, luna, silver and olive) or Win9X "Plus!" themes worked at all. I think the Chrome way would work a lot closer to what people was used to (as opposed to being able to change the color of the transparency), without compromising the spirit of the Aero theme.

By the way, I still think "themes" in Win7 are kind of OK. Also, congrats to you for the theme for MvsW

Here's the (incomplete) cursor set.

You'll have to manually install them.
-Unzip into some folder. For example windows\cursors\mvw
-Then go into the mouse properties and manually set the cursors

They should work on all windows versions XP and up (possibly window 9x/2k also, but I'm not 100% sure)


Try them out, tell me what you think.

Eventually. They are animated, and I'm not 100% sure what to do with them
