Frequently Asked Questions

Why no mention of third party hardware or software support?

This website isn't about which platform is more popular by having more hardware or software available. This is a no-brainer! Windows has over a 95% marketshare.

This gives Windows a powerful advantage over any other operating system available. There are already many websites that discuss the third party support of Windows ad naseum and use that as the defining reason why Windows is the best and has no competition.

However, just because Windows has the greatest marketshare doesn't mean that other operating systems don't have value. If you were to remove third party support from the equation, Microsoft Windows would sit on an even playing field with the rest.

Mac vs. Windows is about comparing the operating systems created by Apple and Microsoft. Our comparisons are NOT a popularity contest. We intelligently discuss the features and benefits each operating system offers their users out of the box.

Why are some comparisons from XvsXP missing on Mac vs. Windows?

The Mac vs. Windows wiki is a work-in-progress.

Not all of the comparisons from our XvsXP website have made the transition over to Mac vs. Windows. Each comparison is being updated to reflect the most recent information regarding each operating system. They are also being converted into a more wiki-friendly format. This all takes time and a lot of effort.

We understand that we have been working on this for a long time, but we ask you to be patient. We are working as fast as we can to transition all of our comparisons. As we finish moving a comparison from XvsXP over to Mac vs. Windows, we will place a notice at the top of its web page on XvsXP.

If the comparison you are looking hasn't yet been posted on Mac vs. Windows, please keep checking back. We try to add one new comparison every week. In the mean time, we suggest you subscribe to our RSS feed so you can stay up-to-date with all new additions to Mac vs. Windows.

Why are the scores missing from your comparisons?

The comparisons on our XvsXP website used to have scores assigned to them to indicate a ranking level for each operating system for a particular task. For the time being, these scores will not present on our Mac vs. Windows comparisons until ALL comparisons have been transitioned over from XvsXP.

Do you offer a PDF of your comparisons?

We are planning to offer a PDF version of all the comparisons on Mac vs. Windows as soon as we have transitioned over all our comparisons from XvsXP.
